Progress report: June 2026

Of a kind! We are two and a half months out from the release of lost talent. I’ve sold... some books. What means more to me is the reviews that I've been getting. Lost Talent is still above 4 stars on goodreads, which is really encouraging.

I’m doing what I can to promote, and trying not to fall down a rabbit hole of throwing money at the problem. I feel like that would be such and easy trap to fall into. I’m coming to the end of my Kindle Unlimited period, and I’m thinking that it might be the time to withdraw from that and go wide, see if that helps me shift a few more books. I think that the countdown price (0.99pence/cents) is a better price point for me as a new author with little to no profile, so I may make that change permanent. Unless it was the limited nature of the deal that shifted a few more copies this week. Who knows! Marketing is a deep magic and I think I'll go mad if I try to understand it.

We’ll see. I’m not swearing off Amazon or KDP entirely, but I may have reached the limits of what I can do with it. What 'going wide' looks like is the next thing that I have to decide…

The Future:

The good news is that Book 2, ‘A Coven for Outcasts’ is still in Beta. Honestly, I need more beta Readers who have actually read and enjoyed book 1, so if you are reading this, and want to volunteer to beta read for me, please get in touch via Blue Sky. I don’t feel like I am getting enough feedback to really give it the polish that it needs.

I’ve also had a pretty big breakthrough in book 3, ‘Magic School Reunion.’ I’ve been making steady progress, finally! It is my aim to publish ‘Coven’ at easter 2027, Finish the first draft of ‘Reunion' by the end of this year and publish that easter 2028. There may be a book 4, but that is in the very early planning stages. If there isn’t enough meat on the bones for a book 4, the story beats that are emerging in my head for that may end up as an extended epilogue in ‘Reunion’ but we’ll see.

I also have at least one idea fermenting in my head for a blog post, probably on the BFS website again, but that needs some major work.
